We belong outdoors. Whether in the wilderness or on city streets, humans are built to walk on two feet and notice their environment. Photography is the record of what catches my attention, and has been since I was in high school. Daily walking in all weather, usually in the woods near my house, keeps me balanced. Kayaking and sailing on live water nourishes my soul. Long backpacking trips or pilgrimages in the summer restore my direction in life. Feeling the rhythms of the earth, observing small changes over time, discovering how my emotional balance is affected by weather and temperature, opening the space for ideas as my feet cover distance- these activities are tied together with a steady stream of photographs.

What is important in life? Food, air, clean water, ideas, books, learning, schooling, and public space all come to mind.
